Project Description

Pinhole SPECT provides better resolution and detection efficiency trade-off as compared to parallel-hole collimator for imaging small field-of-view. We have developed an optimization model for a flat panel detector and designed an adaptive multi-pinhole (MPH) collimator set for improved clinical myocardial perfusion imaging, brain imaging with extra capability of small animal imaging (SAI) on a clinical dual-head SPECT/CT scanner. Simulation results have demonstrated the improved image quality of using MPH as compared to parallel-hole collimator for the 3 aforementioned applications. Prototypes have already been developed and preliminary experimental point source data were acquired based on the lab’s SPECT/CT scanner.
